Kaziranga National Park Reopens, Kicking Off New Tourism Season
Guwahati: Marking the onset of the new tourism season, Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve officially reopened to visitors on Tuesday. The reopening ceremony occurred at the Western Range, Bagori, with notable attendees including local MPs and state ministers. The event began with a traditional puja to bless the park and inaugurate the safari season.
In a gesture of support, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. donated an Animal Rescue Vehicle to aid the park’s wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Additionally, the occasion saw the launch of a book titled “A Practitioners Guide to Photographic Monitoring of Asian Elephants for Science and Conservation,” authored by Dr. Varun Goswami, Dr. Divya Vasudev, and Parvathi K. Prasad, highlighting the park’s rich biodiversity and conservation initiatives.
A unique wildlife-themed Eco Shop with over 50 products and souvenirs was also inaugurated at the Bagori Range campus. Proceeds from this shop will support the forest staff welfare society and the Eco Development Committee around Kaziranga. Moreover, a medicinal plants sale counter was introduced at the Memorial Park in Kohora, under the Golaghat Social Forestry Division, enhancing the park’s eco-tourism identity.
Visitors can now experience Kaziranga’s iconic wildlife, including the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, tigers, elephants, and numerous bird species. New activities such as hiking, trekking, and bird trails have been introduced to deepen visitor engagement with the park’s natural wonders.
The opening ceremony was graced by Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, and Veterinary Minister Keshab Mahanta, among others. Wildlife enthusiasts and tourists alike can now look forward to an enriching and memorable season at Kaziranga.
