Urgent Plea: Tamil Nadu CM Stalin’s Heartfelt Call to EAM Jaishankar for Swift Release of Detained Fishermen
Tamil Nadu CM Urges Swift Diplomatic Action to Secure Release of Fishermen Arrested by Sri Lanka
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, has called on External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to adopt robust diplomatic measures to prevent the arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen and to secure the release of those already detained by Sri Lankan authorities.
In a letter addressed to Dr. Jaishankar, Stalin highlighted the incident where 17 fishermen, along with their boats bearing Registration Nos. IND-TN-10-MM-411 and IND-TN-10-MM-544, were apprehended by the Sri Lankan navy near Neduntheevu. The fishermen had set out from the Rameswaram fish landing center on the 28th of this month.
Stalin emphasized that the ongoing detention of fishermen and confiscation of their boats is causing significant distress and uncertainty among coastal communities. He reiterated that a memorandum has already been submitted to the Prime Minister, urging the initiation of strong and effective diplomatic measures to both prevent future arrests and secure the immediate release of the detained fishermen and their boats.
Stalin’s appeal underscores the urgent need for diplomatic intervention to resolve the issue and alleviate the concerns of the affected coastal communities.
