Assam Boxers Shine at REC National Open Talent Hunt Championship
Guwahati: Eight sub-junior girls from Assam have punched their way into the finals at the ongoing REC National Open Talent Hunt Boxing Championship, organized by the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) in collaboration with the Boxing Federation of India (BFI). The championship is being held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) regional center’s indoor stadium in Guwahati, Assam, and the finals are set to take place on Monday.
In the boys’ category, Abhigyan Bora stands out as the sole finalist from Assam in the 33 kg weight division, securing a place in the gold medal match.
Sunday’s semifinals saw Assam’s talented girls displaying exceptional talent. Riddhika Bhandari, Pranamika Bora (33 kg), Spaddha Dikshita Parashar (35 kg), Shini Hazarika (43 kg), Konkona (52 kg), Trisha Pegu (55 kg), and Neha and Sangita Sonowal (58 kg) won their bouts to reach the finals.
Despite their struggles, several sub-junior girls earned bronze medals: Devitara Pegu (31 kg), Pranamika Bora (33 kg), Nayanmoni Dale and Chayanika Dale (35 kg), Nayanmoni (40 kg), Asmita Roy and Devika Gohain (43 kg), Anushka Gogoi (46 kg), Rimpi Pegu (49 kg), Kripanjali Basumatary (55 kg), Ganati Mushahari (58 kg), and Barbie Chetia (61 kg).
In the boys’ sub-junior category, Lakshyajit Sutiya (43 kg), Venish Mushahari (61 kg), and Ashish Mukhia and Abhiyan Boro (70 kg) also captured bronze medals despite being defeated in their semifinal bouts.
Adding to the glory, eight junior boxers from Assam have sailed into the semifinals, guaranteeing medals for the state.
Previously, Assam’s performance in the elite and youth categories was commendable, with athletes winning a total of 16 medals: two gold, six silver, and eight bronze.
The event highlights the prowess and emerging talent of Assam’s boxers on a national stage, continuing to bring pride to their home state.
