Explosive Revelation: Malayalam Actor Minu Muneer Lashes Out Against Filmmaker Balachandra Menon
In a shocking revelation, Malayalam actor Minu Muneer has alleged that filmmaker-actor Balachandra Menon coerced her into watching a sexual act involving multiple people back in 2007. Muneer described the unsettling incident in an interview with India Today, recounting how Menon and several others were part of the act, and he insisted she observe it.
This isn’t the first time Minu Muneer has spoken out against harassment in the industry. Previously, she accused seven men, including popular actor Jayasurya and CPI(M) MLA Mukesh, of physical and verbal abuse. Following her allegations, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against the accused. Muneer expressed her satisfaction with the investigation, especially highlighting the arrest of MLA Mukesh, remarking, "To see an MLA with so much influence getting arrested is not a simple thing."
In addition to Menon, Muneer named several industry figures in a detailed Facebook post, accusing Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Edavela Babu, and others of abuse during a 2013 project, which forced her to leave the industry and relocate to Chennai. Edavela Babu was recently arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), although he obtained anticipatory bail. All the accused, including Jayasurya, have proclaimed their innocence.
The Hema Committee report, which has prompted numerous women to come forward with their stories, played a crucial role in Muneer’s decision to speak out. She mentioned the Chief Minister’s commitment to registering cases upon receipt of complaints as a motivating factor. Muneer also opened up about facing a POCSO case filed by her cousin, which she claims is a retaliatory act because she refused to help her cousin get film offers.
Reflecting on her ordeal and the industry’s dark side, Muneer said, "I had a lot of dreams, but the industry turned out to be a nightmare for me." She disclosed that she has received multiple calls offering money in exchange for dropping her accusations, leading her to stop answering calls from unknown numbers.
The case has captured significant public attention, revealing the deep-rooted issues within the Malayalam film industry.
