Karaikal Government Hospital Installs ₹9 Crore MRI Scanner, Enhancing Diagnostic Services
Karaikal Government Hospital, established in 1908, has been newly equipped with an MRI scanner, enhancing its diagnostic capabilities significantly. The Puducherry government recently allocated the state-of-the-art MRI equipment to the hospital, addressing a long-standing gap in local healthcare services.
Medical Superintendent S. Kannagi highlighted that the hospital previously had to refer patients to Puducherry for MRI scans, causing delays and inconvenience. "This is no longer necessary. The MRI scanner aids in diagnosing various conditions, including brain and spine issues, tumors, and joint injuries," Dr. Kannagi stated.
The hospital is gearing up to commence MRI operations within 45 days and has sought two technicians from the Puducherry government to manage the machine. Installed on the ground floor at a cost of ₹9 crore, this addition will notably augment the hospital’s existing diagnostic services, which currently include X-rays, ultrasounds, and CT scans.
