Empowering Change: Cyclothon in Lower Subansiri Champions Cleanliness and Unity under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
As part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the District Administration and Urban Development Department kicked off a cyclothon today aimed at promoting cleanliness. The event was flagged off from the District Secretariat by Hage Appa, MLA of the 17th Assembly Constituency.
The cyclothon saw enthusiastic participation of key officials, including Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, Manish Gupta, IAS; Commissioner of Urban Development, Vivek Pandey, IAS; and Deputy Commissioner Vivek HP, IAS. The Ziro Cycle Club also took part, cycling from the District Secretariat to the ZFM venue.
In his address, Chief Secretary Gupta emphasized the importance of cleanliness as a lifestyle choice rather than a one-time effort. He highlighted that this year’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan aims at instilling lifestyle changes that contribute to creating garbage-free towns and cities.
Deputy Commissioner Vivek HP expressed gratitude for the participation and underscored ongoing initiatives aimed at making Ziro township garbage-free. He announced that, in collaboration with ArSLM, the district administration will distribute cloth bags with Apatani traditional motifs to market committees and shops to phase out plastic bags by January 26, 2025. “Ziro will become plastic-free, setting a precedent for other districts in Arunachal Pradesh,” he stated.
This event underscores the dedication of the officials and the community towards achieving a clean and sustainable environment in line with the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
