China Furious: Indian Mountaineers Spark Outrage by Naming Arunachal Peak After Revered 6th Dalai Lama
Arunachal News Breaking
ITANAGAR: China has voiced strong objections after Indian mountaineers named an unnamed peak in Arunachal Pradesh after the 6th Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, reasserting its territorial claims over the disputed region.
This controversy erupted following a successful expedition by a team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), who scaled the previously unclimbed 20,942 ft peak. After reaching the summit, the mountaineers chose to honor the 6th Dalai Lama, born in 1682 in Mon Tawang, by naming the peak after him.
Situated in Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh, NIMAS operates under the Ministry of Defence. This latest development has further fueled the longstanding territorial dispute between India and China over the region.
