Feel the Unity: Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Proudly Embraces the Vibrant Swagger of India
At the India Today Mumbai Conclave on September 26, Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi emphasized that the confidence and assertiveness seen in today’s youth reflect a collective voice of the Indian populace, transcending personal swagger. He stated, “My swagger is the swagger of the people of India,” alluding to the lessons learned by the ruling party from the last Lok Sabha election.
Gogoi underscored the significance of young Indians’ willingness to voice their opinions as a positive trend for democracy. He affirmed their right to both support the government and criticize it without fear of retaliation.
Drawing parallels between sentiments in Jorhat, Assam, and constituencies in Uttar Pradesh such as Varanasi and Raebareli, Gogoi pointed to a unified demand for politicians to address critical issues like unemployment, inflation, climate change, and education. He urged political leaders to “Stop dividing us and find solutions. If you don’t find solutions, you will get punished.”
He highlighted a shift in political dynamics, noting that the past decade was marked by strong, centralized leadership, whereas the current decade is defined by the electorate reclaiming power. Citing political developments in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as examples, Gogoi suggested that India saw a preview of this shift in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Gogoi’s remarks reflect a broader call for accountability and responsiveness from political leaders, underlining the changing landscape of Indian democracy shaped by an informed and vocal electorate.
