Triumph on Untouched Heights: National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Conquers Unclimbed Peak in Arunachal Pradesh!
Itanagar: In a landmark achievement for mountaineering, a team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) has successfully ascended an unnamed 6,383-meter peak in the Gorichen range of Arunachal Pradesh. The 15-member team, led by Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, completed the challenging 15-day expedition in the Tawang region.
The team faced significant challenges, including navigating steep ice walls, dangerous crevasses, and a 2-kilometer glacier, to reach the summit of the unexplored peak. In honour of the 6th Dalai Lama, Rigzen Tsangyang Gyatso, and his contributions to the Monpa community, NIMAS has named the peak “Tsangyang Gyatso Peak.”
This historic climb not only celebrates Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural heritage but also enhances the region’s reputation as a top destination for mountaineering and adventure sports. Despite unpredictable weather and difficult terrain, the team’s commitment and teamwork were instrumental in their success.
NIMAS, a leading institution in adventure and mountaineering in India, has informed the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) of their accomplishment and the decision to name the peak. Steps are underway to ensure “Tsangyang Gyatso Peak” is officially recognized on maps.
This extraordinary expedition underscores the dedication and expertise of the NIMAS team and marks a significant milestone in the promotion of adventure sports in Arunachal Pradesh.
