India-China Border Dispute Talks: EAM Jaishankar Highlights Crucial Relationship for Asia’s Future
In a recent address at the Asia Society Policy Institute, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the significant role of India-China relations in shaping the future of Asia and the global multipolar order. Reflecting on the historical complexities between the two nations, Jaishankar highlighted that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese troops violated established agreements by moving large forces to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), leading to clashes and casualties.
Jaishankar noted substantial progress in resolving the border disputes, stating that 75% of disengagement issues have been addressed, though some patrolling challenges remain. He underscored the importance of the next step being de-escalation.
Asserting the pivotal role of India-China relations, Jaishankar said, "The future of Asia and the world depends on this relationship." He remarked that Asia’s evolving political landscape is central to global multipolarity.
Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, reiterated the cooperative stance, affirming that China and India are partners, not rivals. Xu called for mutual respect and trust, emphasizing the consensus between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the two countries should view each other’s development positively and address core interests and concerns collaboratively.
This dialogue highlights the intricate balance required in India-China relations and their broader implications for regional and global stability.
