Empowering Journeys: Over 3 Lakh Class IX Students to Receive Free Bicycles for a Brighter Future
Addressing the media following today’s cabinet meeting, Assam Cabinet Minister Mallabaruah announced a significant educational initiative aimed at improving student attendance and access to education in remote areas. The Assam government has decided to distribute bicycles to 3,23,640 class nine students across the state’s schools. To fund this initiative, an allocation of Rs 148.55 crore has been sanctioned.
“Our government hopes that with this initiative, students in remote areas can reach school on time, resulting in fewer school dropouts and better access to education,” stated Mallabaruah. This move is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance educational infrastructure and ensure that distance and lack of transportation do not hinder students’ academic progress.
The decision underscores the state’s commitment to minimizing educational disparities and promoting sustained school attendance for students in far-flung regions. By providing bicycles, the Assam Cabinet aims to address the vital issue of accessibility, which often serves as a barrier to continuous and effective education for many students in rural areas. The initiative is expected to yield significant benefits, including reducing dropout rates and ensuring timely school attendance, thereby fostering a more inclusive educational environment.
This initiative reflects Assam’s ongoing endeavor to implement policies that support the educational advancement of its youth, which in turn contributes to the overall developmental agenda of the state.
