Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Triumphantly Launches Transformational KHIR-City Project Near Bengaluru on September 26
Karnataka to Launch First-of-its-Kind Knowledge Health Innovation Research-City
The Karnataka government is set to launch the pioneering Knowledge Health Innovation Research-City (KHIR-City) project, a first-of-its-kind initiative in India. This ambitious undertaking will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on September 26, 2024, at Vidhana Soudha. The project will span approximately 2,000 acres, with the first phase covering 500 acres.
Announced by Major Industries Minister M.B. Patil on September 22, 2024, KHIR-City aims to create approximately one lakh jobs through an investment of over ₹40,000 crore. Inspired by international innovations like Singapore’s Biopolis and Boston’s Innovation Cluster, and incorporating elements from Bengaluru’s Hi-tech City and Electronics City, KHIR-City will be positioned between Doddaballapura and Dobbaspet, around 50 km from Kempegowda International Airport.
The government has constituted an advisory committee featuring luminaries such as Dr. Devi Shetty, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, and Prashanth Prakash to steer the project. Designed to accommodate a residential density of 100 people per acre, KHIR-City will host world-class universities, hospitals, innovative industries, and research institutions. This visionary project is expected to significantly boost Karnataka’s economy and enhance Bengaluru’s global stature.
