Shocking! Five Kilograms of Rotten Fish Destroyed in Theni to Protect Public Health
Surprise Raids Uncover Unsafe Food, Cattle Rescued from Well, and Road Blockade Disrupts Traffic
Theni District, Sept 21, 2024: In a concerted effort, food safety officials and the Department of Health conducted surprise inspections at fish outlets across Bungalowmedu, Forest Road, GH Road, Samadharmapuram, and Allinagaram. Theni Collector R.V. Shajeevana ordered the checks following complaints. Authorities confiscated and destroyed 5 kg of fish deemed unfit for consumption and fined two merchants ₹1,000 each. Further inspections at a weekly market revealed unsafe consumables, including color papad, sweets, and snacks, along with items lacking expiration dates. About 25 kg of these goods were also seized and destroyed. Public complaints about unsafe perishable goods can be reported confidentially at 9444042322.
Meanwhile, in Sakkilyankodai, Dindigul district, a joint operation by Fire and Rescue Services and the Forest department rescued five hill-bred cows that had fallen into an unused well. Engineers used a JCB machine to create an escape pathway, successfully freeing the cows within three hours. The animals, likely seeking water, returned to the forest safely.
In a separate incident, traffic on Dindigul-Natham Road was disrupted for up to an hour as women from Punnapatti panchayat protested for job allocations under MGNREGA. Police and the panchayat president intervened, assuring adherence to the online job registration process, causing the demonstrators to disperse peacefully.
