Powerful Leadership Shift: Boeing’s Dynamic Defense Unit Chief Colbert Bids Farewell, CEO Announces
Ted Colbert, the former CEO of Boeing’s defense, space, and security division, is departing the company immediately, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg announced. This marks Ortberg’s first major executive change since assuming his role in early August. In a staff memo, Ortberg emphasized the company’s commitment to restoring customer trust and meeting high standards to support critical global missions. Colbert, who served Boeing for 15 years, will be temporarily succeeded by Steve Parker, the current Chief Operating Officer, until a permanent replacement is appointed.
Boeing’s defense, space, and security unit, which contributed nearly 40% of the company’s revenue in the first half of the year, has faced several challenges, including production issues and cost overruns on new 747s designated for Air Force One. In the space sector, Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft returned without the NASA astronauts who flew it to the International Space Station in June; they will return via SpaceX’s Crew-9 vehicle, NASA recently confirmed. Colbert has yet to comment on his departure.
