Bollywood Actress Sushmita Sen Reflects on Her Fortunate Collaboration with Salman Khan
Mumbai, September 21 (IANS) – Renowned Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen, celebrated for her impressive roles in films like ‘Aankhein’ and ‘Sirf Tum’, expressed her gratitude for working alongside superstar Salman Khan. A throwback video from her 2021 appearance on the celebrity talk show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ has recently resurfaced online, shedding light on their cordial camaraderie.
In the video, Sushmita recalls a nostalgic moment from the set of the popular film ‘Biwi No. 1’. She mentioned how Salman Khan, always supportive, encouraged her confidence. "I am very fortunate to have an actor like Salman Khan," she said. "Since the time of ‘Biwi No. 1’, he has always asked with concern, ‘Sush, did you forget to wear your shoes?’ When I replied that I was in flats following David Dhawan’s instructions, Salman would reassure me, saying, ‘No, you carry your height, I’ll carry mine. You want to wear heels, you wear them.’"
Reiterating her stance on equality and confidence, Sushmita added, "So what if a woman is taller? You will look up and talk, while we will respectfully listen."
Directed by David Dhawan, ‘Biwi No.1’ (1991) featured an ensemble cast including Karisma Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Tabu, and Himani Shivpuri. The film was a remake of the 1995 Tamil movie ‘Sathi Leelavathi’, which starred Kamal Haasan and Ramesh Aravind. The Bollywood version also included cameo appearances by Megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan.
Apart from ‘Biwi No.1’, Sushmita and Salman have collaborated on other notable projects such as the 2002 action-thriller ‘Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge’ and the 2005 comedy-drama ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’, also directed by David Dhawan.
