DU Unveils Exciting Provisional Lists for Central Posts in Highly Anticipated DUSU Poll
Provisional Lists Released for Delhi University Students’ Union Election
The Delhi University has unveiled provisional lists for the four central panel posts in the upcoming Students’ Union (DUSU) election slated for September 27. Post preliminary scrutiny, 87 nominations were submitted, with 31 female candidates. These lists, published by Chief Election Officer Satyapal Singh, are pending further verification.
The release follows a Delhi High Court directive to scrutinize women’s representation in the elections. For the position of President, 28 candidates have been shortlisted, including 10 women. The Vice-President post has 19 candidates, seven of whom are women. The Secretary position features 22 candidates, with seven women, and the Joint Secretary post has 18 candidates, again including seven women.
Some student organizations nominated multiple candidates per post, intending to finalize by Friday. For example, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad nominated six candidates, while the National Students’ Union of India nominated nine.
Left-wing student groups AISA and SFI, contesting in alliance, fielded one candidate per post. Saavy Gupta, their Presidential candidate, aims to create a more democratic and accessible students’ union, focusing on safety for women and representation of common students.
