Microsoft Unveils Unified Streaming App for Windows Across Multiple Platforms

Microsoft has introduced a new Windows app compatible with macOS, iOS, iPadOS, web browsers, Android devices, and Windows PCs. The app functions as a comprehensive hub for streaming Windows from a variety of sources, including Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Remote Desktop.
Microsoft stated, "With Windows App, you can enjoy a unified experience that makes it simple for people to connect to the Windows experience they know and love from any device. Enhance productivity with features such as customizable home screens, multi-monitor support, and USB redirection. The Windows App also offers advanced security features, including multifactor authentication, to ensure a seamless and robust connection."
This integrated application, tested for nearly a year, features a customizable home screen, multi-monitor support, and USB redirection. This allows users to utilize local devices such as webcams, storage units, and printers as if directly connected to a cloud PC.
Primarily intended for Microsoft work and school accounts, the app aims to facilitate the transition for current users of Remote Desktop clients. Microsoft’s existing Remote Desktop Connection app, which serves a similar function, remains available with Windows 11, enabling access to work PCs from personal devices.
Currently, the new Windows app does not support consumer accounts. However, it aligns with Microsoft’s long-term vision to transition Windows to the cloud, enhancing AI-powered services and digital experience roaming.
The Windows app is available for download from the Microsoft Store and Apple’s App Store for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. An Android version is also available in public preview mode.
