Joyful Celebration: Territorial Army’s Platinum Jubilee Ignites Green Revolution
Territorial Army’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations: 134 ETF Conducts Mass Plantation Drive in Assam
Guwahati: This year, the Territorial Army—a distinguished military reserve force known for providing essential support to the Indian Armed Forces and civilian authorities during natural disasters and emergencies—celebrates its platinum jubilee.
As part of the jubilee celebrations, the 134 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army-Ecological), also known as the 134 Ecological Task Force (ETF), organized an awareness program and a mass plantation drive in the Sonitpur district of Assam, specifically in the villages of Gamani, Rihajuli, and Chattai Garobasti.
Established in 2007 in Sonitpur to address rampant deforestation and restore the region’s fragile ecological balance, the 134 ETF has been instrumental in environmental conservation efforts across Sonitpur and Biswanath districts.
To commemorate the occasion, the 134 ETF undertook a significant initiative, planting 10,000 fruit-bearing and shade-giving trees in the aforementioned villages. The drive saw enthusiastic participation from local villagers, emphasizing a community-driven approach to enhancing the green cover in their areas.
ETF personnel interacted with community members and children, stressing the importance of protecting the ecosystem, particularly vulnerable and endangered species of flora and fauna. They underscored that successful ecological missions heavily rely on active local community involvement. The enthusiasm of the children in particular stood out as a highlight of the event.
The mass plantation drive was part of a series of events planned throughout the platinum jubilee year, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability within the region.
