Former President Donald Trump’s campaign rally at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, was at the center of a security scare on Wednesday. Reports of explosives found near the rally site circulated just three days after an unsuccessful assassination attempt on Trump, but authorities have confirmed these reports to be baseless.
The New York State Police (NYSP) took to social media, specifically on platform X, to dismiss the claims, stating, "Reports of explosives found in a vehicle outside the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island, this morning are unfounded. No explosives were found." It was emphasized that the NYSP, along with the Nassau County Police Department and the US Secret Service, were working on security for the event.
Sunday’s assassination attempt occurred at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Secret Service agents thwarted the attack, firing at the would-be assassin, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, who was taken into custody by local police. Routh had been camping near the golf course with provisions and a rifle.
This attempted attack followed another in July, where Trump narrowly escaped harm at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, used an AR-style rifle to open fire, resulting in one death and two injuries among the audience before he was shot by a Secret Service sniper.
The multiple assassination attempts and the false alarm involving explosives underscore the heightened tension and security concerns surrounding Trump’s campaign activities.
