Powerful & Hopeful Roadmap Unveiled by Amit Shah to Resolve Manipur Crisis
The Indian government is ramping up efforts to address the ongoing crisis in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced. This comes at the end of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term’s first 100 days. Shah emphasized the government’s systematic approach to resolving the conflict, which is racially charged between the Kuki and Meitei communities.
“We have created a roadmap to solve the issue,” Shah stated, underscoring the significance of dialogue between the conflicting groups. He reassured progress, noting, “In the last three months, apart from a recent three-day stretch of violence, no major incidents have occurred.”
Shah identified the India-Myanmar border as a key factor in the unrest. The government has already initiated a fencing project along this border, with 30 kilometers completed. “We have started fencing the root cause of the problem, the India-Myanmar border,” Shah explained. Plans are underway to fence the entire 1,500-kilometer stretch, with funding approved.
Additional security measures include deploying Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) units and nullifying an agreement that permitted free movement between India and Myanmar. “To stop the infiltration, we have nullified the agreement between India and Myanmar, and now entry into India is allowed only by visa,” Shah clarified.
To meet immediate needs, the government plans to expand access to essential goods via Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandars. Sixteen new facilities will be added to the existing 21, with half of the new centres located in hill areas.
Shah’s announcements highlight a multifaceted strategy combining dialogue, infrastructure, and security measures to stabilize Manipur amidst its ongoing crisis.
