Shiv Sena MLA Sparks Outrage with Incendiary Rs 11 Lakh Bounty to ‘Silence’ Rahul Gandhi
Shiv Sena MLA Sparks Outrage with Bounty Offer for Cutting Rahul Gandhi’s Tongue
Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad has ignited a major controversy by offering ₹11 lakh to anyone who "chops off" the tongue of Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha leader of opposition. Gaikwad’s incendiary statement, made in response to Gandhi’s criticism of India’s reservation system, has led to widespread public outrage.
The controversy erupted when a video of Gaikwad’s inflammatory remarks went viral on social media. In the footage, Gaikwad condemned Gandhi’s comments during his recent U.S. visit, where the latter suggested reconsidering India’s reservation system. Gaikwad accused Gandhi of undermining the benefits of the reservation policy and claimed his comments exposed his opposition to the system.
“While he was abroad, Rahul Gandhi said he wants to dismantle the reservation system in India. This exposes the true face of the Congress party,” Gaikwad remarked. “I will reward anyone who cuts off Rahul Gandhi’s tongue with ₹11 lakh.”
Congress leaders have sharply criticized Gaikwad’s provocative statement, demanding immediate legal action. Vijay Wadettiwar, Maharashtra’s leader of opposition in the legislative assembly, condemned the remarks as “nonsense” and called for stringent legal consequences. Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe echoed these sentiments, arguing that Gaikwad is unfit for public office and urging the Maharashtra Home Minister to consider filing charges of culpable homicide.
In the wake of the controversy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has distanced itself from Gaikwad’s comments. BJP president Chandrashekar Bawankule clarified that the party does not support or endorse Gaikwad’s statements. He acknowledged that prominent Congress figures like Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi had previously expressed similar views on reservations but stressed that the BJP does not condone violent rhetoric.
This incident has further intensified the debate on the reservation system and raised questions about political discourse and accountability in India.
