JUDAS PRIEST’s Ian Hill: ‘Grateful Every Day For the Extraordinary Privilege to Rock On’
JUDAS PRIEST bassist Ian Hill recently shared insights on what keeps the legendary band’s machine rolling after over five decades in an interview with Rockin’ 101’s “The Johnny Rock Show”. He humorously credited “Ibuprofen” and the profound love for what they do. Hill emphasized the gratitude he feels for the band’s enduring career and expressed hope for it to continue.
In a similar vein, frontman Rob Halford discussed the band’s longevity with Rock 108, addressing their continued passion, commitment to fans, and resistance to retirement thoughts. Halford reflected on the irreplaceable bond with fans and the irreplaceable thrill of live performances, equating it to sports fandom.
Asked about retirement by Spain’s Rock FM, the 72-year-old Hill confirmed there’s no retirement plan in sight as long as their performances remain strong. Echoing this sentiment in an interview with Germany’s Rock Antenne, the 73-year-old Halford rejected the notion of contemplating an end, emphasizing the band’s responsibility to their devoted fanbase worldwide.
Guitarist Richie Faulkner, when questioned by Mexico’s Summa Inferno about the band’s future, left the decision to the founding members. He joined PRIEST for what was thought to be a farewell tour, but as the band’s journey continues, he remains committed to supporting its legacy.
Back in 2019, Hill told “Thorn Of Rock” that the band’s love for performing and creating music means there’s no reason to stop as long as the fans are happy. Hill, the last remaining original member, has been part of PRIEST since 1969, with Halford joining in 1973 and guitarist Glenn Tipton in 1974.
Despite health challenges like Halford’s battle with prostate cancer and Faulkner’s cardiac surgery, PRIEST remains undeterred. Tipton, who has Parkinson’s, ceased touring in 2018. Their latest album, “Invincible Shield”, released on March 8 via Sony Music, marks another milestone in their storied career.
