Agartala, Sept. 16: Shock and Outrage Over Minor’s Abduction and Alleged Rape in South Tripura
In a deeply disturbing incident in the Hrishyamukh area of South Tripura district, a minor girl was reportedly abducted and allegedly raped on Sunday, police sources confirmed. The search for the prime accused, Prasenjit Muhuri, is ongoing after his escape, following an FIR filed by the victim’s family.
A local police officer detailed the incident, stating that the young victim, a class 5 student, went missing on her return journey from school. Her worried parents launched a neighborhood search and sought police intervention. Muhuri, a local resident, is alleged to have later returned the traumatized girl near her home before fleeing the scene.
Upon her return, the minor disclosed the harrowing ordeal to her parents, prompting them to lodge a formal complaint. A specific case has been registered at the Belonia Women Police Station under sections 127(1), 96, 76, and 65 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), given the victim’s age. As of the latest reports, the accused remains at large.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another appalling case in Tripura’s Panisagar subdivision, where another minor girl was abducted and raped. During that incident, the victim was intercepted by motorcycle-bound assailants while returning from a shop. They forcibly took her to a secluded area and perpetrated the crime, leaving her in a critical state by the roadside.
The Panisagar victim informed police that the assailants also attempted to strangle her. Local residents rushed her to a hospital for urgent medical care. An FIR was promptly filed, leading to the arrest of Usman Ali (23) and Ayaz Uddin (29).
Both incidents have sent waves of shock and outrage through the Tripura community, highlighting the urgent need for heightened security and swift justice for the victims.
