An encounter erupted in the village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Sunday, marking the fourth clash between security forces and terrorists since Friday. According to information received by security forces, terrorists were present in the area, prompting a cordon and search operation in Poonch, as reported by an official to the news agency PTI.

“Rounds of fire were heard last night in the Pathanateer area of the Mendhar sector of Poonch,” stated the Poonch Police. Acting on a tip-off, a joint search operation was initiated by the police and the Army in the Pathanateer area near Gursai top in the Mendhar sub-division on Saturday evening.

The search party encountered fire from the terrorists, sparking a gunfight. The exchange of fire between both sides continued intermittently, with reinforcements deployed to the area.

“A joint search operation was immediately launched by the Romeo Force of the Indian Army, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Poonch Police, and the CRPF. The area has been cordoned off by the security forces. Firing was heard in the morning hours also. The encounter is underway,” the police told news agency ANI. Further details on the situation are awaited as the operation continues.
