The 2nd edition of the REC Open Talent Hunt kicked off last month in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, drawing 2,820 boxers from various age and skill categories, including sub-junior, junior, youth, and elite divisions. Participants not only competed for medals but also for scholarships, adding an extra layer of incentive to the competition.
The first edition of the tournament, held between September 2023 and April 2024, spanned across multiple cities—Rohtak, Pune, Bengaluru, and Guwahati—and witnessed an impressive turnout of over 6,000 participants. In Guwahati alone, the event attracted more than 1,000 youth and elite boxers. This remarkable participation led to 38 athletes from Assam clinching medals, with nine securing gold.
The REC Open Talent Hunt has rapidly established itself as a significant platform for burgeoning boxing talent in India, offering not only competitive exposure but also educational opportunities through scholarships. The event’s wide-reaching impact is evident from the overwhelming response and the high levels of skill and determination displayed by the competitors.
