Urgent Plea: HITO Demands Swift Government Action to Resolve Jowai’s Dire Transportation Woes
HITO Urges Immediate Government Action for Improvement of MTC Services in West Jaiñtia Hills
JOWAI, Sep 13: In an assertive move on Friday, the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) from West Jaiñtia Hills confronted the in-charge of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) at the Jowai Depot. The delegation, led by HITO President AG Satein, demanded urgent intervention from the state government to resolve the persistent transportation issues affecting local residents.
The group vehemently expressed their dissatisfaction with the state’s ongoing neglect of MTC operations in Jowai. Highlighting the reliance of many locals on MTC buses for pivotal routes such as Jowai to Saipung and Jowai to Khanduli Hamren, HITO emphasized the critical need for dependable bus services.
HITO members also pointed out several deficiencies within the Jowai Depot. These include inadequate building infrastructure, insufficient parking facilities, and unfilled staff positions, notably the roles of Assistant District Manager (ADM) and Upper Division Assistant (UDA).
In light of these significant concerns, HITO urged the Transport Minister to intervene immediately, stressing that resolving these shortcomings is vital for the well-being of the people in Jaintia Hills. The organization insists that prioritizing the needs of the community is imperative and expects swift governmental action to enhance the state of public transportation services in the region.
Through this concerted effort, HITO aims to ensure that the transportation framework in West Jaiñtia Hills meets the needs of its residents, thereby strengthening the overall quality of life and connectivity in the area.
