India and China Forge a Path to Peace: Intensified Efforts for Complete LAC Disengagement
India and China have committed to expediting efforts for complete disengagement in remaining contested areas. This consensus was reached during a meeting between India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Wang Yi, member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The bilateral talks took place on the sidelines of the BRICS High-Ranking Officials Responsible for Security Matters and National Security Advisers meeting. Ajit Doval emphasized that maintaining peace and tranquility along the border, as well as respecting the Line of Actual Control (LAC), are crucial for normalizing bilateral relations. He stressed that both nations must adhere to existing bilateral agreements, protocols, and past understandings.
The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement noting that the two sides recognized the significance of the India-China relationship not only for their own countries but also for the region and the world at large. The discussions reviewed recent efforts toward resolving the remaining issues along the LAC, aiming to stabilize and rebuild bilateral relations. Additionally, the two officials exchanged views on the current global and regional situation.
