Emotive Guwahati Director’s ‘Letters From Vietnam’ to Captivate Hearts at Costa Rica Film Festival Premiere
Kishore Kalita’s ‘Letters From Vietnam’ Shines in Global Film Circuit
After gaining critical acclaim with his award-winning documentary ‘Veerangana’, Kishore Kalita, a filmmaker from Guwahati, is once again in the spotlight with his latest project, ‘Letters From Vietnam’. This travelogue through Vietnam’s exotic landscapes has been selected for screening at the Max Sir International Film Festival 2024 in Costa Rica, a prestigious event highlighting nature-focused documentaries. Previously, ‘Letters From Vietnam’ was also featured at the Indian International Short Film Festival Awards.
Kalita describes his journey through Vietnam as spiritually enlightening, capturing the nation’s diverse cultures, stunning landscapes, and rich historical landmarks with his camera. His documentary showcases iconic Vietnamese sites, including the UNESCO World Heritage site Halong Bay, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and the historic One-Pillar Pagoda in Hanoi.
In Hanoi, Kalita visited the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first National University dedicated to Confucius, which provided a tranquil retreat amidst the bustling city. He also observed the large bronze statue of Ly Thai To, the founder of the Ly dynasty, exploring Vietnam’s historical and spiritual richness.
Beyond temples and historical sites, Kalita’s journey included a visit to the Phu Quoc United Center, a major tourist resort and entertainment complex on Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Pearl island.
Besides directing and producing ‘Letters From Vietnam’, Kalita also handled the cinematography. Edited by Bipul Raj, with music by Soumyarit Nag and sound design by Prasun Mukhopadhyay, the film is narrated by Hansraj Barpatragohain.
Kalita’s intimate and immersive portrayal of Vietnam promises to captivate audiences, bringing the vibrant, multifaceted essence of the country to the global stage.
