Google Chrome is rolling out significant updates to improve tab management across all devices. Currently, users can save Tab Groups on signed-in desktops. The latest updates will extend this functionality to mobile devices, allowing users to better organize and access tabs on their smartphones and tablets.
Tab Groups on iOS
The new version 128 of Google Chrome for iOS now supports Tab Groups. Users on iPhones and iPads can create Tab Groups by opening the tab grid, long pressing a tab, and selecting "Add Tab to New Group." Additionally, they can name and color-code these groups for easy organization. However, unlike its Android counterpart, iOS does not support dragging and dropping tabs within the grid.
Cross-Device Syncing
Google is preparing to introduce a feature that will sync Chrome Tab Groups across all devices. According to a blog post from Google, this functionality will soon allow users to save and sync tab groups seamlessly between their desktop and mobile Chrome browsers. This means users can start a project on one device and continue on another without any interruptions, enhancing productivity and continuity.
When a Tab Group is created and named on a mobile device, it will automatically appear in the Bookmarks Bar on desktop Chrome. Additionally, Google is developing a dedicated user interface for Tab Groups on Android.
Seamless Browsing Experience
Chrome is also experimenting with a feature that recommends pages to revisit based on tabs previously opened on other devices. This will build on the existing "Continue with this tab" card on the New Tab Page, which shows local tabs after a period of inactivity.
This cross-device sync feature will be available on Android, iOS, and desktop versions of Chrome. It aims to eliminate the need for bookmarking pages or remembering exact URLs, thus ensuring a seamless browsing experience for users.
