Discovering Nature’s Hidden Gems: Areekode College’s Fascinating Book on Arimbrakkuthu Flora and Fauna
Curiosity about a 330-acre reserve forest adjacent to the campus of K.M. College of Teacher Education, Areekode, has culminated in the creation of a book that captures the region’s rich biodiversity. Under the National Service Scheme (NSS) banner, students and teachers meticulously documented the flora and fauna of the Arimbrakkuthu forest in Keezhuparamba grama panchayat through various seasons. Their explorations revealed over 40 bird species, numerous butterflies and moths, and hundreds of animal species, including reptiles and amphibians.
Driven by a desire to understand how such a biodiverse forest thrived beside their institution, the team compiled their findings into a book titled “The Biodiversity of Arimbrakkuth.” Edited by Mohammed Shafi P. and Benzila Rose Sunny, the book will be formally released by P. Karthik, Nilambur North Divisional Forest Officer, during a ceremony at the college on Wednesday.
