Urgent Appeal: Kishan Reddy Calls for State Govt. Support to Transform Roads Near Cherlapally & Secunderabad Stations
Works are underway to construct a modern railway station with 10 platforms at Cherlapally, aimed at alleviating passenger congestion at Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda stations in Hyderabad, according to a communication from Union Minister for Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy.
Minister Reddy has requested Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s cooperation in expanding roads for the Secunderabad railway station and the upcoming Cherlapally terminal. The Cherlapally terminal, located on the city’s outskirts and costing ₹415 crore, is nearing completion and will cater to both passenger and goods trains. This project addresses the rising passenger traffic at existing major stations.
Specific road expansions required include a 100-foot road from the FCI godown side, 80-foot roads towards the northern side (Bharat Nagar), and another 80-foot road towards Mahalaxmi Nagar. Additionally, the road in front of industrial sheds should be widened to 80 feet. Minister Reddy emphasized the necessity of Chief Minister Reddy’s intervention to expedite these works.
The essential infrastructure, including tracks, station buildings, and passenger amenities, is almost complete. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the terminal upon its completion.
Simultaneously, Secunderabad Railway Station, headquarters of South Central Railway (SCR), is undergoing a ₹715 crore upgrade to international airport standards, targeted for completion by next year. However, the station’s access roads remain narrow, particularly the congested stretch between Rathifile bus station and Alpha Hotel during peak hours. Minister Reddy emphasized that road expansions need to align with the station’s modernization to ensure smooth passenger flow.
