Frustration Mounts as Dangerous Potholes on Pumpwell Circle Flyover Service Road Delay Mangaluru Traffic
Vehicles entering Mangaluru via National Highway 66 from Thokkottu and Kasaragod are facing severe delays due to a heavily deteriorated service road near Ujjodi. The 100-meter stretch near Brahma Mugera Daivasthana, particularly around the Pumpwell Circle flyover, is riddled with deep craters and potholes, severely impacting traffic flow. Despite repeated alerts and requests from local residents for repairs, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has not addressed the issue, worsening with the onset of the monsoon season.
The service road is crucial as it accommodates city and service buses, including those operated by the Road Transport Corporation of Karnataka and Kerala, following the closure of the Mahakalipadpu Railway Level Crossing. Vehicles are taking at least 10 minutes to cover just 100 meters and are forced to halt frequently, causing further congestion. The situation is hazardous for pedestrians, with Ahmed Javeed, a student, narrowly avoiding an accident while crossing the road.
Javeed highlighted the inadequate road conditions, including poor shoulder drains, an uneven surface, and the lack of pavements, urging the NHAI to take immediate action. The persistent traffic jams create a significant challenge, particularly during peak hours, for both motorists and pedestrians.
