Agartala, 7th September 2024: Tripura CM Highlights Increase in Girl Students’ Higher Education Enrolment
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced a notable increase in the Gross Enrolment Ratio of girl students in higher education during the Platinum Jubilee Programme at Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in Kailashahar, Unakoti District. The event also featured a photo exhibition and a blood donation camp celebrating the institution’s history.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha assured that the government would address the encroachment on the college’s land, emphasizing that education and healthcare remain top priorities. He underlined the state’s commitment to development with actionable promises.
As the state’s education minister, Dr. Saha credited the no-fee policy for girl students in general degree colleges since 2022 for the increased enrolment rates. He further emphasized the government’s dedication to women’s welfare through initiatives like the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, 33% reservation for women in government jobs, the establishment of ‘pink toilets,’ and 50% reservation for women in government stalls.
Dr. Saha applauded Prime Minister Modi for realizing the National Education Policy (NEP), which has been implemented in all state colleges. He highlighted the introduction of the ‘Lakshya’ scheme, designed to help students prepare for competitive exams like the UPSC.
The Chief Minister detailed educational advancements including the upcoming Dhamma Dipa University in Sabroom, and progress on Techno India University and Aryavart International University, along with the already established Maharaja Bir Bikram University and Tripura Central University. He declared the state’s ambition to become an educational hub in the Northeast, noting the establishment of dental and nursing colleges despite challenges.
The event was also attended by Social Education and Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy, MLA Birajit Sinha, and Raval Hamendra Kumar, Special Secretary of Higher Education, among others.
