Medical Student at Silchar Medical College Dies by Suicide

Guwahati: A tragic incident unfolded at Assam’s Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) on Tuesday night when a 24-year-old medical student took his own life. The suicide occurred around 10 pm, with the police arriving at the scene about 30 minutes later.

Two notes, presumed to be suicide notes, were recovered from the student’s room. These notes implied that no one should be held accountable for his death, and the handwriting has been verified by his family members. Nevertheless, the notes will undergo further examination as per legal procedures.

Initial findings by the police suggest that it is a case of suicide. The body has been sent to SMCH for a post-mortem examination, and an investigation is currently underway.

Peers from the medical college described the deceased as an intelligent student, noting his high rank in the NEET examination.

This incident has cast a pall of gloom over the institution, raising concerns about the mental well-being of students. The investigation continues as authorities seek to understand the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.
