GUWAHATI: An elderly man, Ashok Balmiki, who works as a sweeper at Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH), has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a four-year-old girl. The incident took place in the Kamalbari Habi Suk area of Lichubari, where Balmiki, in his 50s, lived as a tenant.
Balmiki is accused of luring the young girl, who was left unattended along with her six-month-old sibling by their parents—both daily wage laborers—into his home. Local residents intervened when they became aware of the situation, restraining and assaulting Balmiki before handing him over to the authorities.
A senior police official confirmed the incident to Gplus, stating, "The accused has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing."
