Exciting Ganpati Travel: MSRTC Rolls Out 5,000 Extra Festive Buses to Konkan!
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) announced plans to operate nearly 5,000 special buses for the Ganpati festival to accommodate the surge in travel to the Konkan region from Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar districts. These special services will commence on Tuesday, ahead of the festival that runs from September 7 to September 16. A total of 4,953 buses will be deployed, including 4,200 that were pre-booked by various groups. Specifically, Thane will see 2,481 buses, with 2,064 already group-booked, Mumbai will have 1,841 buses, of which 1,578 are group-booked, and Palghar will receive 631 buses, including 558 group bookings.
Recognizing the substantial number of people traveling from Mumbai and Thane to their hometowns in the Konkan region for the festival, MSRTC is also offering significant fare concessions: 100 percent for passengers above 75 years of age and 50 percent for women on these special services. To further ensure passenger convenience, maintenance vehicles will be stationed along the Mumbai-Goa highway, and temporary toilet facilities will be available.
MSRTC’s public relations officer, Abhijit Bhosale, highlighted these initiatives as part of the corporation’s efforts to provide safe and comfortable travel during the festive period. The state-owned transport body operates a fleet of about 15,000 buses, handling over 60 lakh daily passengers across Maharashtra and neighboring states.
In a related revenue milestone, MSRTC earned a record ₹121 crore during the recent Raksha Bandhan weekend (August 17-20), with the highest single-day revenue of ₹35 crore recorded on August 20.
These preparations underscore MSRTC’s commitment to meeting high travel demands during major festivals, ensuring a smooth and pleasant journey for all passengers.
