Nagaland Lottery Sambad: An Overview
Lottery games are strictly prohibited in most Indian states, except for 13 where they are legally permitted. Since 1967, states like Nagaland, Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, Meghalaya, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, and Sikkim have allowed these activities.
Nagaland State Lotteries, established in 1972 under the Finance Department, aim to provide a stable income source for the state government. The lotteries are held three times daily—morning, day, and evening—every day of the week. Each session features different names and prize amounts, with the highest prize being Rs 1 crore (inclusive of the Super Prize). The daily lotteries—Dear Morning, Dear Day, and Dear Evening—offer tickets at Rs 6 each.
Under the direction of the Director of Nagaland State Lotteries, the draws are conducted daily at P. R. Hill Junction, Kohima. To claim a prize, winners must present an undamaged, original ticket along with a filled lottery claim form, a government-approved photo ID, and passport-sized photos. Damaged or tampered tickets are not accepted.
For prizes up to Rs 10,000, payment is facilitated through the Distributor on behalf of the State Government. Claims exceeding Rs 10,000 must be submitted to the Director, Government of Nagaland, or the relevant Nodal Office within 30 days of the draw. The necessary documents and forms must be completed to receive payment within 60 days.
