SECL Accelerates Jobs for Landowners: Empowering Chhattisgarh with Swift Employment Opportunities | Company News
South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Chhattisgarh-based subsidiary of the state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), has expedited its efforts to provide employment to landowners. As of this financial year, SECL has granted employment approval to 337 landowners, marking a 30% increase compared to the same period last year, a company spokesperson reported.
With its “Samvedansheel Prabandhan – Samvadsheel Prabandhan” initiative, which emphasizes empathy and dialogue, SECL has approved employment for around 1,748 landowners since April 2022. In the 2022-23 fiscal year alone, 704 landowners received jobs, slightly lower than the 707 in the previous fiscal year, the highest in a decade.
Coal India has set an ambitious target of producing 1 billion tonnes of coal by 2026-27, with SECL expected to contribute 250 million tonnes. Achieving this goal necessitates enhancing current mining production capacities, underscoring the importance of timely land acquisitions.
To facilitate this, SECL has streamlined land acquisition and employment processes and introduced a special rehabilitation and resettlement package at its major projects—Gevra, Dipka, and Kusmunda. These efforts have begun to yield positive results.
Notably, SECL’s Gevra and Kusmunda mines recently ranked second and fourth in the list of the world’s top 10 mines. In the last financial year, Gevra produced 59 million tonnes (MT) of coal, while Kusmunda produced 50 MT. Gevra has also received environmental clearance for 70 MT, positioning it to become the world’s largest coal mine.
