Assam to Take Legal Action Against USTM VC for Alleged OBC Certificate Fraud: Shocking Revelations Emerge from Guwahati
Assam to File Case Against Meghalaya University Vice-Chancellor Over Fraudulent OBC Certificate
Guwahati: The Assam government plans to file charges against Mahbabul Haque, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), for allegedly obtaining a fraudulent Other Backward Class (OBC) certificate 32 years ago, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Haque secured the certificate in 1992 from Assam’s Karimganj district; it was canceled in 1996 after a complaint revealed that he did not belong to an eligible community.
"The Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj should have pursued action against Haque back then," stated Sarma. "Although no action was taken at the time, we will now file a First Information Report (FIR) against him."
Earlier this month, CM Sarma accused USTM and Haque, who is also the proprietor of the institution, of contributing to "flood jihad" against Guwahati. He asserted that the university’s campus activities had damaged nearby hills, leading to significant waterlogging in Guwahati.
In another development, Sarma disclosed that no Hindus from Bangladesh had entered India amid recent unrest, while some Bangladeshis, primarily Muslim, were attempting to enter India for textile industry jobs. Over the past month, 35 such individuals aiming for regions like Bangalore, Tamil Nadu, and Coimbatore were apprehended.
