Rescue Operation by Assam Rifles Saves 1740 Stranded Villagers in Tripura
Agartala, 24th August 2024: In a remarkable operation showcasing sheer bravery and resilience, Assam Rifles troops rescued 1,740 villagers stranded in their flood-submerged homes over recent days. Following urgent requests from the civil administration, two rescue columns comprising 80 personnel and four motorboats were swiftly deployed across Gomati and West Tripura districts.
Notably, the involvement of Riflewomen in the operation ensured that the rescue maintained the dignity and privacy of women in distressing situations. This thoughtful inclusion proved invaluable during the sensitive aspects of the operation.
The Assam Rifles teams have worked tirelessly, even beyond midnight, over the past 72 hours to bring the villagers to safety. Alongside the evacuation efforts, they provided essential medical aid, including free health checkups and other humanitarian assistance to those affected.
The rescue mission was marked by excellent coordination among various agencies, including the civil administration, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). District Magistrates and Sub-Divisional Magistrates from both Gomati and West Tripura maintained continuous communication with Assam Rifles authorities, ensuring prompt and coordinated responses to any emerging emergencies.
