Army Personnel Allegedly Dies by Suicide in Manipur
Bishnupur, Manipur: A 28-year-old soldier of the Garhwal Rifles was found dead in an apparent suicide on Sunday at the Kangvai post in Bishnupur district. The incident occurred around 2 am while his unit members were asleep, police reported.
The deceased, identified as Lance Naik Rahul Negi, allegedly shot himself with his service rifle inside the barracks. Upon hearing a single gunshot, security guards and fellow soldiers immediately rushed to the scene and discovered Negi dead.
Authorities confirmed that no suicide note was found at the site. The service rifle used in the incident was recovered from the spot. The body was later transferred to RIMS Hospital in Imphal for a post-mortem examination.
The police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. This tragic event has raised concerns about mental health and support systems within the armed forces.
