Justice for the Victim: CBI Charges RG Kar College Ex-Principal Sandip Ghosh in Kolkata Doctor Rape Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a corruption probe against Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, following an order from the Calcutta High Court. The case involves allegations of rape and murder of a trainee doctor on the college campus.
In compliance with the high court’s directives, the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Ghosh. The court’s decision stemmed from a petition filed by Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of the same medical college, who sought an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over alleged financial irregularities during Ghosh’s tenure.
On Saturday morning, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) presented relevant documents at the CBI office in Nizam Palace. Subsequently, the CBI issued the FIR and submitted a copy to the Alipur Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court.
The allegations have put RG Kar Medical College under intense media scrutiny, especially after the purported rape and murder incident on August 9. The high court has mandated that the CBI submit a progress report on the ongoing investigation within three weeks, with a follow-up hearing slated for September 17.
This unfolding investigation underscores the high court’s commitment to addressing both alleged criminal activities and potential financial mismanagement within the institution, intensifying the public and legal spotlight on Ghosh and the college administration.
