Tragic Discovery: Missing Minor Girl’s Body Found in Kolhapur Field, Rape Suspected – Heartbreaking News That Shocks Maharashtra
Kolhapur (Maharashtra), Aug 22: In a tragic incident that has sparked widespread outrage, a 10-year-old girl, the daughter of migrant laborers from Bihar, was allegedly raped and murdered. Her body was discovered early Thursday in a sugarcane field near Kolhapur. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis were attending an event in the city when the news broke, prompting them to seek immediate details.
Deputy CM Fadnavis revealed that the girl had been missing since Wednesday afternoon following a punishment by her uncle. Her family lodged a police complaint late at night, and search teams found her body early the next morning. Police have detained several suspects for questioning, and further investigations are ongoing. Fadnavis assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to the victim’s family.
Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit stated that the incident occurred in the Ramnagar locality of Shiye village. The girl’s family had relocated from Bihar three years ago for work and resided in the Shiroli MIDC jurisdiction. On the day of the incident, her parents were at work, leaving her in the care of her maternal uncle.
Upon returning from work, the parents couldn’t find their daughter and initiated a neighborhood search. The uncle mentioned that the girl was last seen playing on a mobile phone before she presumably went outside. A coordinated search involving police and local residents, including the use of a dog squad, ultimately led to the discovery of her body.
Shiroli MIDC Police Station in-charge Pankaj Giri confirmed that three to four suspects have been detained, with final conclusions pending the autopsy report. This case emerges amid ongoing public unrest over similar incidents in other parts of Maharashtra, such as Badlapur, Thane, Akola, and Pune.
Maharashtra Women’s Congress President Sandhya Savvalakhe has demanded the resignations of CM Shinde and Deputy CM Fadnavis, criticizing their alleged negligence in ensuring the safety of women in the state.
