Renowned USA Doctor Inspires Future Scientists at Meghalaya’s University of Science and Technology
Guwahati: Dr. Vijay K Mittal, Associate Director of Medical Education, USA, delivered an illuminating talk on “Simulation for Health Care Workers including AI” at a workshop organized by IQAC, USTM, at the NKC Auditorium on Wednesday. The session commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Sarbeswar Sahariah, Pro Vice Chancellor of USTM, and included dignitaries such as Dr. R.K. Sharma and Dr. B.K. Das.
Dr. Sahariah highlighted the significant advancements brought by simulation in medical science, emphasizing the critical role of simulation-trained professionals in accurate diagnosis and treatment. He noted the rising importance of AI in enhancing diagnostic capabilities.
Dr. Mittal elaborated on simulation as a technique to replicate real-world experiences, informing attendees that simulation is well-established in fields like the military, aviation, and NASA. He outlined the four primary purposes of healthcare simulations: education, assessment, research, and health system integration, all aimed at improving patient safety.
Dr. Mittal stressed that simulation training fosters individual and team performance through interdisciplinary approaches, marking a paradigm shift in medical education. It is employed extensively to enhance medical knowledge, patient care, psychomotor skills, critical thinking, and decision-making among students.
The workshop concluded with an interactive session, engaging over 250 students and staff from USTM and PIMC USTM, creating an enthusiastic learning atmosphere. A press release later confirmed the event’s successful conclusion.
