Renowned Kannada actor and filmmaker Rishab Shetty, celebrated for his 2022 hit "Kantara," has recently made headlines with his sharp critique of Bollywood’s depictions of India at international film festivals. In a viral interview with MetroSaga, Shetty, speaking in Kannada, condemned Bollywood for often showcasing India in a negative light on the global stage. He emphasized the importance of representing the nation, state, and language positively, highlighting his commitment to this mission through his own work.
Rishab Shetty is currently immersed in filming "Kantara 2," officially titled "Kantara: Chapter 1," a prequel to the original that delves into the lore of the Panchurli Deiva during the Kadamba era. Scheduled for release in early 2025, the film features Jisshu Sengupta and promises an enchanting score by returning music director Ajaneesh Loknath.
In addition to his upcoming project, Shetty is promoting the Kannada film "Laughing Buddha" and recently won a National Film Award for his performance in "Kantara." Despite the accolades, Shetty highlighted the ongoing challenges for Kannada films on OTT platforms, noting the difficulty in gaining proper exposure and the frequent necessity to release on YouTube or at film festivals. He expressed gratitude for the national recognition, affirming that "Kantara" has significantly raised the profile of Kannada cinema.
