Assam Police Nears End of 40-Year Insurgency Struggle, Says DGP GP Singh
Guwahati: Assam is approaching the final stages of its longstanding insurgency, assured state Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh on Monday. Addressing the media about the recent recovery of bomb-like devices in various locations, Singh emphasized the police force’s commitment to ending the insurgency, which has persisted for 40 years.
"We must remember that we are at the last stage of this insurgency. Isolated incidents may still occur, but we should not be demoralized," said Singh. Despite the discovery of these devices, which lacked ignition mechanisms, he expressed confidence in the police force’s ability to maintain peace, as they have done for decades.
The bomb-like devices were reportedly planted by the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (Ulfa-I) on Independence Day. Singh underscored the police’s focus on strengthening traditional policing and stated that any organization attempting to disrupt the state’s peace would face strong action.
"Our primary focus is preparing Assam Police for the next 50 years to ensure a safer state," Singh said, elaborating that Ulfa-I’s objective in planting these devices was to destabilize the prevailing peace in Assam. He reaffirmed that this goal would not be achieved and called on the youth to engage in developmental activities instead of insurgent ones.
In related news, security forces have been on high alert after Ulfa(I) claimed to have planted bombs at 24 locations, including Guwahati. Extensive searches have revealed no active bombs, though the police remain vigilant.
The police’s efforts and security measures underscore an unwavering resolve to end Assam’s decades-long conflict, ensuring long-term stability and development for the state.
