Shocking Arrest: 14 Bangladeshi Nationals and 5 Facilitators Captured in Tripura, Police Report Reveals
Fourteen Bangladeshi nationals and five Indian facilitators were apprehended in three separate locations in Tripura, the police announced on Monday.
In an operation on Sunday night, the Tripura Police detained over seven Bangladeshi transgender nationals at the Sidhai Police Station under West District following a tip-off. “We received information about two Indian touts facilitating the illegal border crossing for eight Bangladeshi nationals, with two local auto drivers also involved. Thanks to local assistance, we detained eight Bangladeshi nationals and four Indians without any legal documents,” a police official stated.
In another raid on Sunday in Lamprapara, Gumati district, police arrested eight Bangladeshis, according to Assistant Inspector General (Law and Order) Ananta Das. Earlier, on Saturday night, seven Bangladeshi nationals and five Indian facilitators were taken into custody in the Sidhai area of West Tripura. Additionally, three more Bangladeshi nationals were nabbed at the MBB Airport area in West Tripura on Monday.
Das attributed these arrests to heightened border vigilance in response to recent political shifts in Bangladesh. “The arrest of 18 Bangladeshi nationals reflects our increased border surveillance. We will continue coordinated patrolling efforts with BSF personnel to prevent further illegal intrusions,” Das emphasized.
The series of operations highlight Tripura’s intensified security measures aimed at curbing unauthorized border crossings, ensuring regional stability, and reinforcing border integrity. The apprehended individuals are currently undergoing legal proceedings, pending further investigation.
