Laxman Champions 42% Quota for BCs in Local Body Polls, Igniting Hope for Equal Representation
In a steadfast call to action, Rajya Sabha MP and National OBC Morcha President K. Laxman urged Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to honor the commitment of providing 42% reservation for Backward Classes in the upcoming local body elections. Speaking at the party’s State office, Laxman noted the Congress government’s silence on the quota promise, despite being in power for eight months with the support of BCs and other marginalized groups.
Addressing party workers, Laxman paid homage to freedom fighter Sri Sardar Sarvai Pappanna Goud on his birth anniversary. While appreciative of the government’s decision to officially commemorate Goud’s birthday, he emphasized that true tribute would lie in the actual implementation of the BC reservation quota. He encouraged BCs and other weaker sections to unite in the fight for their political and social rights, invoking Goud’s struggle against Nizam’s oppression and his efforts for BC recognition. State OBC Morcha President Anand Goud was also in attendance.
Later, BJP, alongside allied Sangh Parivar organizations such as VHP, Bajrang Dal, and RSS, organized a protest rally from Bal Gangadhar Tilak statue in Koti to the Kacheguda crossroads. The demonstration was against the “ongoing genocide” against Hindus in Bangladesh. Notable participants included former MLA Ch. Ramachandra Reddy, BJP city president N. Gautam Rao, and spokesperson N.V. Subash.
This call for action underscores the pressing need for political accountability and protection of marginalized communities’ rights in Telangana.
