Outrage in Tripura: BJP Slams CPIM Over Tragic Death of Party Worker Amid Post-Poll Chaos
Agartala, Aug 18: The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPIM) of inciting violence that resulted in the death of BJP worker Asish Paul. The incident took place on August 12, during the vote-counting process for the three-tier panchayat elections.
BJP Tripura Spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty reported that Asish Paul, a committed worker from the Sonamura Mandal in the Sepahijala district, suffered severe head injuries after allegedly being attacked by CPIM supporters. Paul was promptly rushed to GBP Hospital in Agartala but succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning.
“Asish Paul was attacked by CPIM party supporters on the day of counting, resulting in grave head injuries. Despite medical intervention, he fought for his life at GBP Hospital but passed away at around 3 am today,” Chakraborty stated.
Following the incident, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik demanded stringent legal action against those responsible. “The attackers used a sharp weapon, causing severe head injuries and significant blood loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and vow to pursue justice for him,” Bhoumik declared.
Bhoumik also condemned a recent unrelated incident involving the rape and murder of a female medical student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, underlining broader concerns about violence and safety in the state.
The BJP’s allegations have escalated political tensions in Tripura, prompting calls for accountability and justice from both local and national political spheres.
