High-Stakes Showdown: Trump vs. Harris in Fierce Battle for Swing States as Election Day Looms
As the 2024 US Presidential Election draws near, Vice President Kamala Harris is currently leading Republican candidate Donald Trump in several key battleground states. According to swing state polls conducted by the New York Times/Siena, Harris holds an advantage over Trump in Arizona and North Carolina, whereas Trump is ahead in Georgia and Nevada. Earlier this month, Harris also led Trump in the Rust Belt states.
The political landscape shifted significantly after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in November. Before his withdrawal, Trump had a 3% lead over Biden in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Both Harris and Trump need to secure at least one of the four Sun Belt states, in addition to three Rust Belt states, to win the presidency. Current polls indicate a tight race, with both candidates tied at 48%.
The recent polling data marks a notable improvement for Democrats. A previous survey in May showed Trump leading Biden in Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada. On Saturday, Trump remarked that Harris would be an easier opponent than Biden in the November 5 election, referring to her as “radical” and a “lunatic” during a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He criticized Harris for not doing enough to address inflation and other pressing issues since taking office with Biden.
Pennsylvania, a pivotal state in the Rust Belt, was instrumental in Trump’s 2016 victory but was flipped back to the Democrats by Biden in 2020. As both candidates vie for critical swing states, the race remains intensely competitive and unpredictable.
